UPSC IAS IPS Exam 2015-2016 New Age Limit Applicable : Recently announced, two years increase the age limit of 54 years for all-India services including Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) that apply will be carried out this year.
Vacancies sign from this year will follow the new age. According to DoPT will "for example,for the select list by 2015, the upper age limit for 56 years with crucial date for determination of age as 1 January 2015". However, these rules will not apply to selected listof candidates of the previous year. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) looks after the selection of candidates for IAS, IPS and IFS from State services.
The transition to raising the age limit had come after a representation of some State services officers to Supreme Court challenging the 54 years age criterion. She had the notion to increase the maximum age bar if the retirement age in the Central Government increased from 58 years to 60 years submitted. The Centre was looking for views from the State Governments, thereupon cadre controlling authorities, i.e. Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of environment, forests and climate, State administrations, non-State public services, State police and forest service officers and their associations on the issue.
According to the official data provided by the Government, there are 2,668 4,619 IAS, IPS and IFS officers 3798 work against the sanctioned strength of 6,270, 4,728 and 3,131 respectively.
